To start this post with a bang, we have some of the most infamous songs of 2014. Let us all remember "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj, which dropped with a splash due to its risque music video (Oh god. Oh god, why.), the dreaded "Let it Go" and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" from the 2013 movie Frozen, which left fathers and older brothers in agony, and "Selfie" by the Chainsmokers, which gave a humorous perspective to popular culture.
Next we have some of the greatest songs of the year. Yet sometimes overplayed, these songs truly gave 2014 its tone. "Happy" by Pharrell and "Rude" by Magic often had us involuntarily muttering lyrics whenever they came on the radio, "Timber" by Pitbull and "Summer" by Calvin Harris gave us something to bounce to, and "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic and "Animals" by Maroon 5 had us trying to hit those high notes (often very unsuccessfully) .
To close, we have some of my favorite songs of 2014 (yes, some released in late 2013). "Rather Be" by Clean Bandit, "Wake me Up" and "Hey Brother" by Avicii, and "Stay the Night" by Zedd, and "Faded" by Zhu populate my mainstream favorites. Some of my less popular favorites include the long-awaited Neon Future album by Steve Aoki, numerous songs by Make Acid including "Power Bomb" and his "Ain't it Fun" remix, and everything posted on the Proximity youtube channel (I have found most of my favorite songs on this channel, hence its tagline "Your Favorite Music You Haven't Heard Yet.") .
Despite the numerous political, social, and military struggles that appeared during 2014, we were all able to join together to sing along to (or mutually hate) the music of the year. Hopefully 2015 sees the release of many more hits that will have us dancing in our seats.

2014 was definitely a huge year for music, both good and bad. Two 2014 songs, "Dark Horse" and "Bailando", have been viewed over six hundred million times on YouTube. Those are astonishing numbers (any number you can't put a picture to in your mind is astonishing), and it's weird to think that music can be so well received globally, but then again, music is one of those magical world-uniting elements. Glad to see some of my favorite songs are on your list as well, and thanks for the link to Proximity, it's excellent.
